Assessing the future of climate change policy in the UK

This seminar will assess priorities for UK climate change adaptation and planning as preparations are put in place for publication of the National Adaptation Programme in 2018.

Policymakers and stakeholders will discuss the practicalities of adaption plans for priority areas highlighted in Defra’s Climate Change Risk Assessment Report 2017 by the Climate Change Adaptation Sub-Committee - including water supplies, natural capital, health, food and pests.

Delegates will also consider the outstanding research priorities and adaptation strategies for at-risk areas of the UK, and evaluate the future requirements for the management of climate-resilient infrastructure, risks of climate change to ecosystem services and to public health, and the opportunities to improve efficiency via adaptation measures.

Overall, areas for discussion include:

  • The current state of Climate Adaptation and prospects for 2018 National Adaption Programme;
  • Addressing the priority risk sectors for adapting to climate change, including contributions on health, water and the environment, as well as devolved perspectives;
  • Current climate projections and implications for future adaptation;
  • Managing future adaptation requirements and opportunities to improve efficiency; and
  • Policy priorities for Climate Change Adaptation.
