Westminster Energy, Environment & Transport Forum Keynote Seminar

This seminar will discuss the future regulatory landscape of carbon capture, usage and storage (CCUS) technologies in the UK, opportunities for government support and policy priorities to make large-scale CCUS a reality in the future.

Speakers include: Katie Black, Head of Transport, Energy and Digital Policy, National Infrastructure Commission; Stuart McKay, Head, CCS and Hydrogen Policy, The Scottish Government; Mike Hemsley, Senior Power Analyst, Committee on Climate Change and Will Lochhead, Head of CCUS Policy Team, Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.

With the Government reaffirming its commitment to develop CCUS technology in the Clean Growth Strategy, but cutting the budget to kick-start the industry from £1bn to £100m, this seminar will examine the prospects for making the technology more commercially viable at scale.

Following the launch of the Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Committee’s inquiry into the future of CCUS, and conflicting advice from the Committee on Climate Change and National Infrastructure Commission on the need for CCUS, attendees will look at what is needed to make the industry more attractive.

Further sessions will examine the opportunities for international relationships in developing CCUS, reducing costs and promoting innovation, as well as the challenges for retrofitting the technology on existing industrial sites and storing carbon.
